Bird-Dawging at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge (Maryland 2011)

Kyra & I finally had a relatively 'warm' winter day
to explore Maryland!

So we decided to venture on a road trip to the
Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge (link)
for a scenic drive on "Wildlife Drive"
(perfect name for a perfect drive!)
...
... I also wanted to educate her on what good bird-dawgs

should look for in winter.

We counted lots of bald eagles!
(at least 12 total: 4 juveniles & 8 adults)

5 pairs of a Mallards, 3 Great Blue Herons, Tundra Swan
and 2 red-tailed hawks and even this Northern Harrier ...

.. but most were too far to shoot or gain Kyra's attention ...

Then, ... FINALLY!!!

We found a THOUSANDS, ...THOUSANDS of
loud honking-tonking SNOW Geese.

It's a Bird-Dawg's (and/or trainers) PARADISE!!!

Kyra got really excited! (she could probably smell'em, too!)

I immediately pulled over, then got out to set my camera and tripod.

For Kyra, I also opened all the windows to allow the air
to awaken her senses, ...

Only, ...

She barked!

.... and BARKED

A LOT!!!

BARKED some more ...

BARKED some more ...

BARKED even more ...

Kyra wishes to apologize to all the visitors

1. for scaring away all the birds, ...

2. making them wash their cars/themselves, ...
3. and all those whom she failed to offer cover in my truck.
